Bee Stings

Often, we seem to step on a bee which is when we get stung. It is not often a bee comes and stings you out of the blue but in either case let’s have a look at what to do.

Signs and symptoms of a bee sting:

-        Red and swollen skin

-        Rash

-        Pain

What to do?

Remove the stinger. The best way to do this is to use a card or something flat to scrape away the stinger. The reason for this is thing of the stinger like a dropper. If you were to pull it out with your fingers, you would squeeze ‘the dropper’ and therefore release more of the sting into the wound/bite. This simply means it would be more painful.

Treatment:

Apply ice to the area for pain and swelling management. If pain persists you could try simple analgesia to help with comfort.
